28 Hourly (salary will normally begin at the first step of the range, dependent upon education and experience) GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
Under the general direction of the Riverton Police Department, performs patrol and apprehension duties related to enforcing local animal control laws and ordinances.
Performs labor and technical services to assure the city will be free from animals at large, creating hazards of public health, public safety, or public order; protects animals from mistreatment and rids the streets and roads of animal carcasses.
Also assists with enforcement of city codes and ordinances.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
(These examples are not all-inclusive) Patrols city streets for animals at large Takes into possession and impounds all stray animals as defined in the Riverton City animal control ordinance within the jurisdictional limits of Riverton City and takes to an approved shelter Assists owners in locating missing pets by maintaining detailed records and contacting animal owners, when possible, if their pet is impounded Ensures deceased animals are disposed of appropriately Participates in on-call rotation, responding to after-hour calls Investigates, analyzes and takes appropriate action regarding complaints of violations of city ordinances and applicable state codes within Riverton City's jurisdictional limits.
Appears in court to testify to support the city's position on violations of city ordinances and applicable state codes.
Writes reports documenting actions taken pursuant to investigations of violations of city ordinances and applicable state codes.
Writes reports documenting actions taken pursuant to investigations of violations of the ordinances of Riverton City.
Assists and advises the general public in matters relating to city ordinances and applicable state codes.
Assists other city departments in investigating and enforcing violations of city ordinances and applicable state codes.
Maintains files of reports and other records for all investigations, animal control, and other enforcement activities.
Other responsibilities, as assigned.
MINIMUM
Qualifications:
A high school diploma, or equivalent, is required.

years' experience working with animals is preferred.

years' experience with code enforcement-related law enforcement is required.
Must be at least 18 years of age.
Current Utah Driver's License with a good driving record required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
Ability to remain calm, strong, and professional in difficult situations.
Ability to be flexible and adaptable to changing priorities.
Ability to prioritize work based on department and production objectives Ability to manage projects simultaneously Must be able to work evenings, weekends, and some holidays when needed; schedule may vary on a weekly basis.
Positive attitude and ability to work with a variety of different people at various levels.
Basic skills in Word, Excel, and Outlook preferred.
Preferred to have basic skills with email and internet.
Must have good oral and written communication skills.
Must have excellent customer orientation.
Required to have good problem-solving, influence/interpersonal, multi-tasking, and decision-making skills.
Must be able to use equipment and tools needed to perform job duties effectively.
Must be able to work with little to no supervision.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Successful candidates must pass a pre-employment drug screen, a background check, a motor vehicle record review, a Human Performance Evaluation, be able to lift to 50 lbs.
